For those of you not familiar with Amex Offers, it’s a program available through most Amex cards, where different cards are eligible for different savings offers. In many cases the savings can be huge, and more than offset the annual fee on a card.

To view Amex Offers, go to the bottom of the account summary page of any American Express card, where you’ll see all the offers you’re eligible for. Most of these offers are for a discount when you spend a certain amount with a retailer, and registration is required. Over the years I’ve saved thousands of dollars with Amex Offers.

Save $75 off a $200 Bloomingdale’s purchase

At the moment there’s a targeted Amex Offer for a $75 statement credit when you spend $200+ in one or more transactions at by June 30, 2017. I don’t think I’ve ever made a purchase with Bloomingdale’s, but this is an absolutely fantastic offer that I plan on taking full advantage of.

The promotion is targeted, so not all accounts are going to be eligible. I think Ford and I got lucky — together we had four business credit cards that had the offer attached to them — for me The Blue for Business® Credit Card from American Express was targeted, while for Ford the Gold Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card from American ExpressStarwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express, and The Enhanced Business Platinum® Card from American Express OPEN were targeted.

You’ll want to check your Amex account to see if you were targeted as well, and if you were, you’ll want to register as soon as possible, as registration is limited.

Why am I excited at the prospect of $75 off a $200 purchase from a retailer I’ve never made a purchase with before? Because most of the major high end department stores (Bloomingdale’s, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, etc.) have standardized pricing for big brand items. For example, whether you’re looking for perfume or skincare products or candles or many clothing items, you’ll pay the same for a specific brand no matter where you buy it.

So if you’re someone who is at least a semi-frequent customer of high end department stores, this is an opportunity to get a massive discount on a purchase. We’re talking about a ~38% discount as a starting point.

Get a further 15% off!

Then you can get a further discount for going through a shopping portal. For example, at the moment Ebates is offering 15% cashback on Bloomingdale’s purchases, and that would be based on the total purchase amount (since they don’t know Amex is reimbursing you on the back end). In other words, you’d get $30 back on a $200 purchase, meaning that you’re paying $95 for a $200 Bloomingdale’s purchase — that’s over half off!

Many are reporting that as soon as they make this purchase, they receive another email from Amex offering them $30 off a $150 in-store purchase with Bloomingdale’s, valid through October 30, 2017. That’s probably not quite as tempting, but if you are a big Bloomingdale’s shopper, then perhaps that’s just the icing on the cake..

Bottom line

For those who are targeted, this is a fantastic deal to get over 50% off purchases from Bloomingdale’s. If you ever buy fancy cologne, skincare, shoes, etc., this is a great opportunity to score a deal on them.

Were you targeted for the Bloomingdale’s Amex Offer, and do you plan on taking advantage of it?
